United Methodist Church of Zimbabwe & AIDS Calgary
The United Methodist Church of Zimbabwe has donated $750.00 to AIDS Calgary Awareness Association to support the African Communities project.
The cheque, which was presented to the project Coordinator Sipiwe Mapfumo by a member of that church, Tambudzai Gunguo, will go a long way in supporting the projects mandate to raise HIV/AIDS awareness in Calgary’s African communities.
"The African Communities Project, or 'Right to Know', has reached the tipping point with “least likely groups” such as faith and church groups supporting the project. More churches are hearing of the job we are doing and they are inviting us to give presentations on HIV to their groups that include youth, newly married couples, and adults" said Mapfumo.
The project is working with other African businesses such as African stores, salons, and barber shops in Calgary by giving out reading materials on HIV as well as conducting formal and informal training.
The response to this project has been tremendous and we look forward to more of this wonderful community participation.
